COTA-World Bank China Transport Forum

The China Transport Forum is a joint event that is organized by COTA (previously NACOTA) and the World Bank during the annual COTA China conferences. The purposes of the Forum are to
  • high-light critical challenges and opportunities in China’s transport development and
  • share and discuss inter-national and China’s experience (including the experiences of the World Bank funded projects in China) among COTA members, invited government officials, researchers, educators and practitioners from China.
The 1st COTA-World Bank China Transport Forum was held in 2010 along with the 10th ICCTP conference in Beijing, China. The forum provided both an invited speaker’s session and a panel discussion session for in-depth discussion on the topic. It has become the most influential meeting during CICTP coneference each year.

Purpose:
The COTA-World Bank China Transport Forum is a yearly event jointly organized by COTA and the World Bank at the annual COTA International Conference of Transportation Professionals (CICTP). The Forum aims to: (i) highlight critical challenges and opportunities in China’s transport development; and (ii) serve as a platform for knowledge and best practices sharing among COTA members, government officials, researchers, educators and practitioners from China and abroad.
Forum Description:
The 9th COTA-WB China Transport Forum will be hosted by Tsinghua University in Beijing on July 8, 2018, and organized by COTA, World Bank and World Resources Institute (WRI). This year’s forum will be titled Clean and Intelligent Urban Mobility focusing on urban public transport infrastructure, emerging technologies, and advanced mobility services. It is a comprehensive topic of increasing importance in transportation development. The forum will feature national and international experts, Chinese officials, scholars and practitioners who will discuss the challenges and opportunities of applying the technologies in green urban mobility. The forum will focus on the real world experiences and best practices of new energy bus, non-motorized urban mobility, and infrastructure digitalization both in China and around the world.

Notes: The following has been proposed according to the past forum practices:

  1. COTA and the hosting organization (Tsinghua University) will be responsible for costs associated with the forum venue, domestic invitations, forum visual/audio equipment, printing presentation materials, drinks and post-forum lunch, as well as local transportation for local VIPs if needed.

  2. The World Bank will be responsible for costs associated with the World Bank staff/consultants and invited international experts.

  3. Simultaneous translation service may be provided by the World Bank if needed. However, a cost sharing arrangement (with the host organization and/or COTA) for the service can be discussed depending upon required translation service needs in other CICTP 2018 occasions/sessions and upon the cost estimation becomes available.

  4. Depending upon the level of officials/VIPs invited/confirmed for the CICTP 2018 conference’s opening ceremony, a World Bank’s high level official/leadership (most likely from WB Beijing Office) may be invited to the conference opening ceremony and to make an opening remark to the entire CICTP 2018 conference on behalf of the Bank.
